Dr Swartz graduated from medical school in Western Australia in 2001 and permanently relocated to NSW in 2003. His specialist training was undertaken at both Wollongong and Bankstown Hospitals and he has been a practising Gastroenterologist since 2010.
Dr Swartz undertook post-fellowship training in Therapeutic and Interventional Endoscopy at the prestigious Duke University Medical Centre in the USA. He is the only fellowship-trained interventional endoscopist in the Illawarra region.
After completing his international fellowship in 2013, Dr Swartz joined the gastroenterology practice of Dr Chris Hatton. Dr Swartz took over the running of this practice upon Dr Hatton’s retirement in 2016, where he works alongside gastroenterologists Dr Jeremy Humphris and Dr Dean Al-Hajirri.
He practices in all aspects of gastroenterology, with a focus on high-quality colonoscopy and diseases of the pancreas and bile ducts. In addition to his private practice, Dr Swartz has appointments as a Staff Specialist at Wollongong Hospital, and a Clinical Senior Lecturer with the UOW School of Medicine. He is a member of the ISHLD colorectal cancer multi-disciplinary team and is the current chairperson of the ISHLD upper GI cancer multi-disciplinary team.
